Guest Post #2 - Podcast & Interview
My chat with Shannon of The Gomes Guide on Living Overseas in Switzerland
Hi Friends! Over the Thanksgiving holidays, I had the opportunity to be on my first podcast ever with my good friend Shannon, of The Gomes Guide. It is all about our life here in Zürich, Switzerland and what it was like to move here, how we settled in, what we’ve learned, and why we love it.
Shannon and I met way way way back in the early 2000s when we worked together at Ketchum Public Relations in San Francisco. Those were some good days in SF back when housing was still (somewhat) affordable and we were all young, carefree, and spontaneous. We had a delightful, fun and thoughtful conversation together about what it’s like moving and living abroad, which I have done twice in my life—first to Heidelberg, Germany, and many years later to Zürich. I was really impressed with Shannon’s questions which were tailored to me and fun, yet also dug deeper on the whys and hows of our moves abroad.
In the post you’ll see a lot more casual family photos and a glimpse of our day to day moments living here. I hope you enjoy listening and reading, and please let me know what you think. If you’re Swiss, I hope I didn’t get anything glaringly wrong. And if you’re an American who dreams of moving overseas someday, I’m always happy to share my experience and help, so reach out.
Shannon writes a really fantastic Substack dedicated to travel with a slant toward Gen Xers. She has a ton of followers, many of whom have found me here through her channel. I am super grateful to Shannon for all the opportunities and the way she has promoted me and my work. Shannon and I have worked together so many times over the years and—whether for work or for fun—she remains a close friend who I am always so delighted to see and spend time with. Her positivity is a gift to the world. Thank you, Shannon! Please check out her newsletter and give her a subscribe if you wish!
